CISBM Journal of Immunology, Genetics and Systems Biology

The Centre publishes original work in immunology, genetics and systems biology, and in the translational biomedicine that joins them. The journal is interested in mechanism: how an immune response is organised, how variation in a genome changes it, and how either is measured well enough to be believed.

  • Immunology

Innate and adaptive immunity, immune regulation, inflammation, immunopathology, and the assays by which any of it is measured.

    0 articles

  • Genetics and Genomics

Human and model-organism genetics, variant interpretation, functional genomics, epigenetics, and the statistical treatment of each.

    0 articles

  • Systems and Computational Biology

Network and multi-omic analysis, mathematical modelling of biological systems, and machine learning applied to biological data, where the method is open enough to be checked.

    0 articles

  • Neuroimmunology

The immune system at the nervous system: neuroinflammation, glial biology, the barriers between them, and neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disease where immunity is implicated.

    0 articles

  • Translational and Clinical Biomedicine

Work carrying a mechanism toward a patient: biomarkers, early-phase studies, clinical cohorts, and therapeutic development with a stated mechanism.

    0 articles

  • Methods and Resources

Protocols, reagents, datasets, software and benchmarks, published so that others can use them. A methods paper is reviewed on whether it works, not on whether it is novel.

The Column

Scientific updates and positions.

Scientific updates and positions from the CISBM committee: where a field stands, what the Centre holds on a question, and how a piece of work is actually done. Each is signed and edited by the journal, and is published without peer review, which is what sets it apart from the papers beside it.

How a paper is handled

  1. One

    Submission

A member submits from the desk, attaching the paper and a copy with the authors removed. The manuscript is given a reference in the Centre's own series.

  2. Two

    Editor

An editor takes it on and invites reviewers. An author is never invited to review their own work, and an editor never decides a paper they submitted.

  3. Three

    Blind review

A reviewer reads the blinded copy and writes twice: comments the author will read, and comments for the editor alone. Identity is withheld by the database, not by the screen.

  4. Four

    Decision

The editor decides with a letter to the author. An accepted paper is published here in full, placed in a section and an issue, and is free to read from the moment it appears.

Abstracting and indexing

Where the journal is listed, and where it has applied. A new journal's honest answer to most of this is "applied, waiting", and an author deciding where to send a paper is better served by that than by silence.
