The skills a research team expects you to already have.

The Training Centre teaches the basic skills of immunology, genetics and translational biomedicine: enough of each to follow the work, hold your end of a conversation and contribute from the first week, inside a world-class research team.

What you learn here

Immunology, genetics and translational biomedicine, taught as working knowledge rather than as a survey. The aim is a researcher who can join a world-class team and collaborate in it properly: read its papers, understand its assays, ask the right question at a lab meeting, and do a piece of the work without it having to be explained twice.

  • Immunology — how the response is organised, and how it is measured.
  • Genetics — variation, inheritance, and reading what a sequencing result says.
  • Translational biomedicine — carrying a finding from the bench toward the clinic.
  • A course here is taught and paid for on its own; membership of Centre for Immunology, Genetics, and Systems Biology is earned through supervised research and applied for separately.

    Research Integrity and Publication Ethics

    Mandatory for everyone becoming an Affiliated Member. It is a prerequisite to be passed and counts toward no tier.
